Summary:
MATLAB-Simulink-based tools for analysing electric power systems have been proposed widely before. However, to the best of the authors' knowledge, there is a need for a tool that does not require extensive modifications every time a new element of an existing library is added to a case study.
This paper presents an open-source tool (VFlexP) for the analysis and simulation of electric power systems built upon MATLAB-Simulink, which could ease research and education. The tool represents all variables in a vector form and allows users to select the complexity of the device models used easily. The paper highlights VFlexP's main characteristics, namely, easy implementation, high efficiency and custom complexity, and gives guidelines to include user-defined models in the tool. Its features are compared to existing software on power system analysis.
